From great powers comes great responsibility

Jean Barack Habumugisha
This saying comes from great people who knew the meaning of responsibility.  They said this because they knew that when one is responsible, he can achieve great powers.  Great powers can be achieved in many aspects, such as in the social, political, economical, and religious realms.
Although all of these aspects are in our culture and are viewed as important, the political aspect can be oftentimes viewed as the most critical.  When a person is engaged in politics, he eludes fear and favour due to the momentous tasks that he faces on a consistent basis.
Currently, no one can still wonder or doubt that the people of Rwanda are united.  The government has made a high priority for reconciliation and unity among the people of this country.  Due to these efforts, Rwandese have accepted responsibility for the good future they want for their own nation.
Having great powers and responsibility for one’s self, as well as being able to understand responsibility to the nation, has greatly improved.  This reminds me of a principle in leadership, “Seek first to understand, and then to be understood”.
Presently, people who have realized the meaning of great responsibility should now have started to teach and bring up others around them, such that we may not only develop economically but also develop our mental skills as being “great thinkers of the world”.
More to this, the future needs more educated and critical thinking youth.  This lmplies first seeing the outcomes of what you want to do or to become so that you may become prepared for the future.
Due to this, I encourage youth who have chances to study and master international languages to increase their efforts, as it is said, “Doors of change are opened from inside the hearts”.
When you are responsible, you have a dream to succeed in life and become meaningful in this world.  However, if you do not face your responsibilities you will be a failure not only to yourself, but also to the people who surround you and your country.

Leaders need Pro-activity

Pro-activity means being solution oriented; it helps different leaders in various fields to have focus on every situation.
They get an idea that their ability to overcome any situation is to allow its possibilities and refuse the impossibilities.
Being proactive means our behaviour is a function of our decisions not our conditions. We have the responsibility to make things happen. Basing on this fact, pro-activity can help the leaders of this generation and the generations to come, to be effective based on the principles of leadership.
Leaders face different problems that circum their downfall due to the hardships in the journey of leadership. For this reason, by becoming proactive, leaders begin to think of better ways to do what is right and developmental for the nation.
Highly effective people recognize their responsibility, they do not blame circumstances or conditions but they stay stack to their vision and purpose to make their dreams come true.
Pro-activity smoothens leadership at any level.
Reactive people do not get to foresee the future but effective leaders have got their value driven and if the value produces good quality; it is not a function of whether the situation is hard or not, effective leaders are determined to achieve what they have set.
People can be influenced by different things whether good or bad, but their response is a value based choice. Effective leaders set aims and these aims help them to provide what the community needs, not necessarily what they want.
Effective leadership is seen when the leaders are able to combine creativity and resourcefulness towards a better future. For a leader to put these fundamentals in action pro-activity will be the engine to provide a better environment based on proactive culture.
It is very crucial and fascinating for every leader to be proactive other than reactive because pro-activity is the stepping stone to success.
Remember “Champions are champions not because they do things extraordinary but they do the ordinary things better than any one else.” So the best way of being a success in leadership is not to search for extra things, but to use the resources at your disposal and became great.

The Power of Youth

Youth have the power to make positive choices.
Power is a word that nearly means authority or control. Youth have the power to change things for a better or worse future—they can bring negative or positive change.
In Rwanda, both the positive and negative have been experienced however, we no longer need negative change. Even though our past has been marked with several horror stories about the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, time has come for youth to change the paradigm and start thinking about a great and positive future.
The youth of today are ready to change and leave a better legacy that will be a foundation for the generations to come.
Let’s tune back to the 90s, where most people across the world only pictured Rwandans as either killers or victims. Fortunately, out of these ashes arose a new dawn where the citizens of our beloved nation Rwanda, have made history in a positive light. Today, Rwandans are seen as capable people who can decide for themselves what they want as far as their lives are concerned.
This is best illustrated through the country’s Vision 2020 target that will see poverty chocked out of societies.
This is not a journey that is simply verbal, there is a lot of physical evidence as tremendous change takes its place in Rwanda and, youth are behind it.   ‘Change will always come from the mobilization of the grassroots and rarely will you find change coming from the top.’  Our nation is desirable and through the commitment of youth, we stand together to make our dream nation better, true and real.

Let’s Understand Leadership

Leadership is a process of influence where people choose to be followers while others choose to lead.
Having the chance to be chosen as a leader gives you the privilege to serve others. A true chosen leader should work hard to lead by example. Some leaders fail because they want to serve themselves when in actuality they should be serving others.
Some others join leadership only to seek greatness, but it is said that “greatness is not how much respect you demand but how much you serve others”. This means greatness is received by those who commit themselves to serve others.
Moreover, some people tend to go into leadership when they are not gifted at all. Some people deceive themselves by taking on leadership roles that they are not qualified for; therefore, they spend a lot of time and energy doing simple tasks.
First know what kind of a leader you are before stepping into leadership.
Nevertheless, when a leader is committed to serve humanity and chooses the right people with vision to associate with, they will be successful in their endeavors. No matter what challenges you meet, your leadership will be admired.
It is said “tell me which people you move with and I tell you who you are”. It’s better for every leader to think positively and be committed to serving.
Leaders develop the nation and prepare others for the future generation.  As it’s quoted, “tell me what you believe, and I tell you what kind of a leader you are”.
This doesn’t mean that some people are born to serve while others are  born to follow, NO!
Some people have issues of low self confidence;  doubting yourself means you don’t know who you are because you try to be everybody else.
Some leaders perceive servant leadership as an aspect that doesn’t exist; but servant leadership has been around for a very long time.  The only difference is that it has been lost for so long that those who hear about it perceive it as a new concept.
If everybody could use their gifts to develop what they have, the world would be the best place to be.
This reminds me of the saying, “If every human being understood that one is born with a gift, and with the potential to hold that gift to serve humanity, instead of employment we would have deployment.”

Jean “Barack” Habumugisha
If you really need education, you have to follow the school rules and regulations, by being in the right place, time and doing the right thing.
Try to listen to your teachers very carefully, asking questions where you don’t understand, remember “a closed mouth catches no flies”.
If your fellow student makes a mistake, correct him gently; we shall never be judged by how old we are but how much we have contributed to our generation.
Never dare laugh at others when they make a mistake because everyone makes mistakes.  When you laugh at other students they become discouraged, and their learning process is affected.
Learn to help each other, as it is said “no man is an island and “two heads are better than one”.  Bear in mind that cooperation among students is of paramount importance in education and in their everyday life.
Learn to work hard, keeping in mind that “there is no gain without sweat.”  If you find your lessons hard, don’t yield to sorrow.  Instead keep concentrating for “he who works hard today his tasks grow lighter and easier tomorrow.” Also remember that ‘where there’s a will there’s a way.’
Learn to manage your time properly, knowing that “good time management is a key to success.”  In the same way don’t cast for tomorrow what you can do today. Otherwise you will find yourselves in trouble at a time.  Remember “passed time never gets back.” So, always strike the iron when it’s still hot.
Avail every opportunity to practice speaking English or any other international language.  No matter what people say about your mistakes, remember that we learn a language through making mistakes.  Keep in mind that “practice makes perfect.”
You know that you are identified with reference to your friends, because it’s widely known that “a man is known by the company he keeps”.
If you are in company of people who behave badly, you risk undergoing negative peer pressure. Don’t rush into certain things, like pre-marital sex, or else your future will be spoilt and your dreams shattered.  Keep in mind that “a dream without a dreamer is never a dream.”
Remain faithful to God the creator, the giver of life, knowledge, wisdom and so forth.  Remember that “greatness is not measured by how much we do but by how much we serve others.”

 Life is a journey met

Life is the way how some one lives. People live in different phases of life but its still a journey for all. Most people say that rich people do not struggle with life meaning that life is not hard for them.
Basing on the principles, life remains a struggle for every one; rich and poor, young and old, Christians and pagans, for the hungry or satisfied.
Some times the principle says how the poor thrash about life is not the same as the rich is true. Reason being, life might be a journey but travelers do not use the same means of transport for instance, some use air transport or water transport, according to their economic standards.  It is said that “cut a coat according to your means.”
People develop their mind according to the way they spend their life, for example  by doing lots of tiresome jobs, which are not even productive, however , when you have much to do you think big. Even some times people, who are successful, first work hard so as to triumphant.
As said, all the means of transport are not the same but the journey is the same. Poor people also will complain that they suffer because of not having money to use in order to enlarge their businesses; but this is to inform you that, wherever you might be, success can draw closer to you. When a person is not a giving up character; no doubt they make it and it is possible.
Life is a drive for all, this means that there are no particular people entitled to success; every one is unrestricted to achieve it. Accepting failure is the beginning of success. In life, no body should blame the little that he earns for it’s known that a small beginning leads to a big enterprise.
Some times in life there are some stumbling blocks that at times they let you down, but at times these problems lead to answers hence leading to a good ending.
Remember that every thing with a vision is the hallucination of meeting a success in life. As long as a person starts to take steps with out vision it’s like preparing a self agony.
When you plan for your journey; success will move towards you and hence the proof to those who blame life to be a difficulty; when it’s their poor managerial. Great thinkers are the great thinkers and more victorious.

The Hidden Gift

Education opens doors to a brighter future
Education emerges as the greatest gift because it can grant the educated everything they need in life. Education when exploited fully, can transform people.
Through education, what is bad can become good and the poor can be made rich. Education has the ability to make the useless useful and even turn the fools into intellectual human beings who are solution-oriented.
Education becomes a great engine of personal development and it is through education that a son of a peasant can emerge as a doctor, engineer, lawyer and any other role that impacts the society positively.
In order to discern the hidden rewards that education has to offer; they should go even further with education.
There is a saying that ‘”If you want big fish, toss your nets deeper in the water.” Furthermore, the task of modern education is not to cut into the jungles but to irrigate the deserts.
In fact, education has led to big improvements in the lives of those who are educated; the rays of the educated shine on the uneducated.  Through this hidden gift of pursuing an education, our minds have given a shelter to thousands of dreams.

NEVER TO BE THE SAME AGAIN.

I’ll never be the same again
I’ll never return I’ve closed the door
I’ll walk a path and I’ll run the race
And I’ll never be the same again.

When a sentence” I will never be the same again” is made, one wants to mean that
he will never go back where he was. This simple sentence but with a profound
meaning that can mend the hearts of the helpless.

This phrase is made by either born again Christians or well-off people. The born
again Christians say that they will never be the same meaning they will never
turn back to the satanic behaviors. In another way well-off people make such
phrase to signify that they will never get poor what ever the case. In fact the
rich that make such sentence lie themselves because it is known that” only with
God one can prosper” and if you have hope in wealth, mind you the best way is to
have hope in the lord God. The riches that one can have may wither like grass or
fade like flowers but believing in the lord will make you to fully succeed. The
full success I talk about is that, one will prosper both in Christianity and
business life and more than this, you will have eternal life.

Before you receive Jesus as your lord and savior, you think that things are
impossible for you are in dark. In darkness one can’t reveal things but
believing in God lightens oneself; keenly, the lightening of the one who has
become a Christian shines to others as well as changing them. Dear reader, you
should know that with God all things are possible and nothing is more powerful
than the lord, for, he is the master planner and the manager of all creation.

After receiving the lord as your lord and savior, I truly tell you that, you
will never be the same. You will stop limiting yourself and look forward for
progress. Did you know that your mind is like God? From now onwards, get to know
that your mind is God made. I will embark on this by giving clear illustration
that when you get a drop of water from the ocean and put it in the cup, it will
have the same characteristics as the ocean. If the God becomes the ocean and so,
your mind is a drop from God. This signifies that our mind is like God; then why
should you limit yourself If God is limitless.

When you turn to God’s ways, your reactions will never be the same since you
will have known the true family in which you belong. The way you think
determines the way you act and the way you react determines the way how others
react to you. So as you believe in God, you will act positively and this will
lead to determination of how others will react to you.

Jesus has restored man to his original position with God. Man once again can
come before God after he makes Jesus Christ the lord of his life. He can come up
to the very throne room of God and find grace to help in time of trouble. We can
approach God. We can be filled with God and we can have the garment of God’s
glory covering us once more when we do what God says. In addition to this, I
assure you, never to be the same.

When we are born again, we stop being just natural men and women. We become born
of God. We are restored to a position of dominion- over sickness, death,
weakness, poverty and every strategy of the devil. The position of God in our
hearts restores the everlasting freedom for life.

After believing the divine power of the lord to your life, there is no doubt
that you will know that your citizenship is in the kingdom of God. We are
citizens of heaven, ambassadors representing the lord Jesus Christ on the earth
until Jesus returns.
As long as you sanctify your life as a representative of Jesus, you will never
be the same.

Let us learn to have the life that has a purpose, for, we shall know the
responsibility of our being and choose life other than death. When don’t choose
God’s ways, you are actually choosing darkness, defeat, lack and sickness hence
the entire curse; but thank God, Jesus redeemed us from the curse so we could
live and walk in God’s blessings.

Remember, God wants to bless you above all people He wants you to enjoy days of
heaven on the earth. You don’t have to run after blessing because God is there
to bless you. What you should do is to get in line with God’s word, and His
blessings will run after you.

When we as Rwandans keep God’s words and do them, this will be the key to
Rwanda’s demonstration of divine wisdom and understanding in the sight of all
nations.

Believing in Jesus as our lord and savior will make us never to be the same
again.

MY SCHOOL SONRISE

The amazing, tremendous
Marvelous institution is my school
SONRISE.
From a deep ignorance
Coupled with laziness
My school trains me
To be a great person that will
Lead to a transformation for my nation.

The institution that helped me
To serve myself, my fellow students
As a head prefect(2009/2010), the school that gives
Chance to students in leading, it
Does this for a need to be trained
As servant leaders.

The school that teaches us to be job creators
Rather than job seekers and no doubt, we assure
The founder of the school that by tooth or nail
We shall achieve that!!! Oh my wonderful school.

We should be used to leadership
In order to provide a bond of leadership
In our continent, because my school
Teaches us that there’s no body that
Will change and transform our nation
Except we as Rwandese!! This is true.

Love without function is like
A tree without fruits, that can’t help travelers
When they are hungry.
Meaning that loving our nation only, isn’t enough
We should also take function to develop it.
We are able and we have potential to modernize it.
In fact we as Rwandese should take the opportunity
To make our beloved nation the most
Admirable place in the whole world, ‘cause
A good beginning leads to a good ending.
All this is what my school teaches me.

What a nice school,
Filled with discipline and even spares for other schools
That are near it, that is why my school
Is gifted as a science school because it is said
“With discipline, science comes .”
This is a chance for other schools to improve
In discipline as my school Sonrise.

My school gives me an everlasting hope
That as long as I work hard, I will be successful
This encourages me as long as I know that
“Giving up is the first failure.”
I will never give up in my life.
We thank our school for
Nurturing us, we shall
Always put in action whatever we are told
In order to work hard towards a new Rwanda
Filled with joy and mercy
As “change will not come from the top,
But it will come from the mobilized
Grassroots.

I THANK MY SCHOOL SONRISE
SITUATED IN MUSANZE DISTRICT.

WHY CAN’T I PREPARE FOR TOMORROW
Tomorrow’s basement is today’s withstand. If some one is to prepare for tomorrow he should first build today.

when someone has got a thought to prepare for tomorrow, e will sustain his thought as well, he will succeed for the next day which is tomorrow, as it is said that today’s dream is success for tomorrow.
human beings have always met problems because of not preparing for their future hopping there’s no future due to the circumstances they have faced, yet they say where there’s no hope there’s no future.

chance favors the prepared ones. Many people high rank this statement while others ignore and disregard it, since one gets a chance when he has integrated himself in the act

No one who can make you inferior with out your concern, by this I mean whatever makes you less important in your community or people around you, yet it’s an accident or good towards you that can determine your future never let it down due to others influence because no one holds your future, it’s you to hold it.

Future lies under progressive phases with failures and success. Failures can’t make you to loose hope in your future because it’s part of your life towards your future. It’s through hard work that one achieves success; under that hard work that one commits to do, and in actual sense he was a failure before he had hard worked.

As the combination of present and past predicts the future, one should consider his past and present in terms of thoughts and actions to ascertain his destiny. As it is quoted that you reap what you sow. It is in such a way that what you want to be may appear in negative or positive category, and why should we make our destiny negative rather than positive.

Quote each paragraph above and try to see where you belong, hence judge your future and begin the hard work towards the chosen thoughts that lie with in you.
It’s my prayer that we should first transform ourselves according to our thoughts but no one’s thoughts that we should base on in order to succeed.
Thanks go to those who read and analyzes the addition of today and the past prepares the future.

MY EVERY THING

Out of the light that dazzles me
Bright as the sun from pole to pole
I thank the God I know to be
For Christ the conqueror of my soul

Since he is the sway of circumstance
I would not wince nor cry aloud.
Under that rule which men call chance
My head with joy is humbly bowed.

Beyond this place of sin and tears
That life with him! And his the His the aid,
Despite the menace of the years,
Keeps, and shall keep me, un afraid

I have no fear, though straight the  gate,
He cleared from punishment the scroll.
Christ is the Master of my fate
Christ is the captain of my soul

  jeano19@yahoo.com

INVICTUS

Out of night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole
I thank whatever gods may be
     For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstances
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid

    It matters not how straight
The gate, how charged punishments the scroll,
  I am the master of my fate;
I am the captain of my soul.

WE ARE ACCUSTOMED TO MAKE IT
As it is said great achievement require great effort. In order for humans to succeed in the different fields, they need to double the effort in order to achieve their goals.
Sometimes, one puts in much effort but the output is not greater than the input. The achievement of any business is observed when the output becomes greater than the input. So the change or the fail wouldn’t decline the dreams of somebody because the failing can be the stepping stones to achieve one’s targets.
Failure is the back door to success. Humans should take failure as a normal scenario because if some fails, he has to know that there are some other successful people that have failed at a time before they attained the success they have now.
In the way to success, things will seem hard but it’s out of determination, commitment that you will achieve great things and make your dream a reality. Sometimes you meet odds that only see negativities out of you, but the ability to overcome any situation is to refuse the impossibilities and allow the possibilities; people can knock you out physically but they cannot absolutely knock out what is in you. Everyone has got an arena to decide what to do.
The only thing people should do is to prepare and long run preparation will meet opportunity. Do what is necessary and the necessity will become the mother of invention as well as success.
We have not to fear risks. If we cease risks then we cease to act; because in every situation either in the beginning or end, there must be risks but these risks have to be the ones evaluate our tasks. We shouldn’t fear to start because even those that have made thousand steps started from one step.

LIFE  IS HARD BUT GOD IS GOOD.

God leads us, opens doors that we do not expect would be open and allows us to connect deeply with the communities for the reason of making life easier.
Life is so challenging for every body. When you meet  a business man that has accumulated a lot of money, he will tell you life is a struggle, when you meet a poor person who find even getting lunch a problem, he will tell you life is so hard.
From this aspect it shows that life is hard for every one that is under the heavens. Great men have always achieved and have made their dreams a reality; but the reality of their dreams doesn’t make their life easy. They still struggle so hard such that they don’t back slide. In fact when you talk to them, they will air out comforting words that happy are those who know that life is hard and they take a step to stay strong and get what they are up to  achieve .
Though life is hard and challenging but God is good. For those who know that life is challenging and they lean on God’s help; they know the secret. The secret is “God makes it easy however hard it may be.”
The greatest achievement man can achieve is to allow God’s help. If my perception is that life is hard, it doesn’t matter how it goes but my goal is to allow  God’s help and He is able to guide in any step taken for “To God all things are possible.”
It is because of God’s goodness that we can have hope, both for here and here after; despite life being a challenge. Of course in life when people are struggling with it; some fail and others succeed. Some of the failures lose hope and become hopeless, but who can restore hope in them, none other than God who created heaven and earth. Sometimes life will be found not getting any sweeter, and keeps rolling  but the best way to overcome this; you have to know the secret.
The intrinsic meaning of life is the journey; mine and yours and the lives we can touch, the legacy we can leave and the world we can change for the better; while in this journey.

It is my every day prayer that renews my passport of blessings each day.

Quote” Am in the way moving on to you Father (God) no more turning back am in the rest of my DESTINY”

ABOUT ME

Am a student currently at Sonrise High School. And I attended this school since 2001 in Primary three, until now 2011, am in S6 taking Math, Physics and Computer science.
My vision is to be a computer engineer based on servant leadership.
In 2009, I was privileged to be the student’s body representative; I was voted by 89.6% votes. I really enjoyed this because I got to train my self as a servant leader aiming at making my nation have a brighter future.

Servant leadership is the one that I need, for, it helps the leader to deal with people but not forgetting asking God for help. I was so honored to share the purpose driven life book with some of the students at Sonrise school. This is a book that is so fantastic, am not afraid to say that after reading a chapter, you’re never the same again. Am proud to have a purposely driven life.

It is my desire to grow up as person that does what is pleasant to God; I know there are challenges but the biggest and highest achievement man can dig up is to allow God’s help. That is why I am sure that God will make every thing come true and help.

As a growing boy, I know from leadership; that one can not be successful because of doing extraordinary things but I can do what I can even if it is ordinary but the trick is performing it better than any one else. We need not to blame circumstances of how we were brought up or where we grew from what is required is to make right choice. We are the products of our past but we should not be the prisoners of that past  meaning we need to think out of the box and be innovative  people designed as Job creators not Job seekers.”

I know as a Rwandan that we have had a poor history but it is said that” IT IS THE FIRE THAT WE PASS IN WHICH MAKES US PURE.” It is the dark that shows the existence of light we can not praise the dark for it left impacts but our zeal is to make a better history for our beloved nation. We can do this by performing to our best as well as we chase the lions of fear and seize opportunity.

I have a curiosity of serving others, as it is said that if you want to lift your self better lift someone else, so that’s why I got an opportunity to write articles and send them to one of the media in Rwanda called The ”NEWTIMES” because I find this as an arena in which every body will be able to read then I  prepare time, when, if given opportunity be able to talk to as many people as possible about my ideas of joining hands together as we build up for the betterness of our nation and future.
It is said we shall never be judged by how long we lived but how much we have contributed to others!!!

BELOW IS A MESSAGE ABOUT MY SCHOOL SONRISE

*********************************************************************************
Speaking on behalf of myself and my fellow students I wish first of all to say a very big thank you to all my teachers and members of Shyira Diocese who have made it possible for us to study at this amazing school, including the headmistress Ms Pamela Connell, who came all the way from Australia to help us.
Sonrise is a Christian-based institution founded by Bishop John Rucyahana after the 1994 genocide, so that orphans could benefit from an excellent education, and be formed in the spirit of our Lord Jesus Christ to be leaders.  The school has, over the years, been seen as one of the best educational establishments in Rwanda, and we, as its students, have had the privilege to be educated here. Bishop John and the diocese have worked tirelessly to gain sponsors to enable us to have such a superb education, and for this, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
The fact that most of us are orphans, he felt, should not be the cause of blame for our lack of progress, but a stepping stone to success. We wish also to thank Bishop Mbanda for being such a supportive successor who has really been a great help to all of us both spiritually and physically.
At Sonrise we have learnt to be solution orientated, and to have a vision for our future, to be job creators and not just job seekers. In this way we, as students, can provide a better future for our nation. We are the chosen people who are able to reveal what has not been revealed if  join hands together to make Rwanda a better place for everyone, especially the next generation.
During our time here we have had to work very hard, and to be innovative so we can all be the best when it comes to entrepreneurship. This is a quality that will be of great benefit to the success of our nation.
We all have our individual interests and have worked hard in all subjects, especially those in which we seek future employment. Some of us wish to be to be engineers, others businessmen and women, and for myself, I wish to a computer engineer.

However, whichever field we follow, we will always be grateful for the superb start that our education at Sonrise School has given us. It was God’s will that we were able to attend such  enlightened school, and we will carry on with the spirit of God in our hearts as we go forward to a successful future. We will carry with us the teachings of Sonrise as an example to others and to help make our nation of Rwanda great.

GOD BLESS YOU ALL
GOD BLESS RWANDA
